Description

Lokpal at the Centra Level and Lokayuktas at the State Level which are similar to Ombudsman in foreign countries, are recommendatory bodies and not disciplinary authorities with powers to punish offenders. Lokpal has jurisdiction to inquire into allegations of corruption against ie,

(1) The high officers of the Government as Class A and Class B and other officers of Class C and Class D and

(2) Persons occupying political offices as M.P.s, M.L.A.s, Ministers and such others occupying satutory posts as may be prescribed. Lokpal has no jurisdiction to inquire into the allegations of corruption against private individuals.
