a:       Gladly did you teach the secret of earnest devotion and at all times protected             me. Such grace of yours (why is it...)

ca :    Did you not say that all the abuses, blows and violence that I had been subjected to, are done to you (Rama)? Did you not encourage me to bear up with the countless, baseless accusations and honour me? Did you not feed me and give me 'tambulam and heal my body? Did you not give me (Thyagaraja) the assurance that we (Rama and Sita) are your parents from birth and send me into raptures? (why is it...) Note: Tradition says that Japesa, the brother of Thyagaraja, Finding that Thyagaraja was not using his talents for making money, in spite of his remonstrances, abused and beat him and threw him in the cattle shed at the back of the house. When Thyagaraja turned to his Rama in his hour of distress, he appeared and showed Thyagaraja his own back on which contusions appeared corresponding to the blows received by Thyagaraja, thus assuring him that whatever harm befell him was done to Rama himself. He is said to have healed the contusions and fed him, giving him tambulam at the end. This is referred to in some other songs too.................
